How do I choose a reputable moving company?
Compare written estimates, verify registration and understand who will handle your belongings.
Start with registration and written estimates
For an interstate move, check the mover’s registration and complaint history through FMCSA. For an in-state move, check your state’s moving requirements. Compare written estimates for the same inventory and services rather than choosing by price alone.
Know who is handling the move
Ask whether you are speaking with a mover or a broker. Confirm the actual transporting company, pickup and delivery arrangements, payment terms and damage procedures before signing. Keep copies of the estimate and your correspondence.
